Victor Gusev: We would be champions in football on snow!

“Starco” player and well-known Russia channel One TV-presenter Victor Gusev will cover the Winter Games in Sochi which start on February 7, 2014.

- Hockey is my favorite sport at the Games as I have been following major competitions for many years and have been working at IIHF congresses as an interpreter, - Victor Gusev, who covered competitions at 12 Olympic Games since 1980, told Art-football.ru.– I wish NHL players keep on taking part in the Games but it does not seem an easy task to convince the NHL bosses that without players from the USA and Canada the olympic tournament would turn into what the soccer olympic under 23 tournament is.

- Are you going to comment hockey matches?
- I do not know. My principal task is to present breaking news and to tie together news and direct translations. It is not an easy job. I remember when once at Paralympic Games I was to comment competitions without preparation. When it was over one of the athletes told me that he liked my comments and thought I was a paralympian too…

- If you were Olympic committee president, which new sports would you add to the program?
- I think it is more important to save classic disciplines as 10 000 m speed skating or ski marathon that add new sports. Some people say they are too boring to watch but I do not agree. I like team sports and if it were possible I would add bandy to the program. You may argue that no one can see the ball on the screen but with modern HD technologies things have been changing for the better.

- May be football on snow could be added to the Games?
- Good idea! Russia is world beach football champion and European mud football title holder. If there were snow football (why not snow art-football?) Russia would be world champion for ever!
