NewsPremier League title chasers Chelsea have announced a new collaboration with the makers of The Simpsons. In partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, the club will release a range of Chelsea-branded merchandise featuring Homer and Bart Simpson. A soccer-themed episode of the classic cartoon series will also air in March, initially on Fox in the US. The episode, titled ‘You Don’t Have to Live Like a Referee’, will feature ‘Homer and his recruitment as a soccer referee, after Lisa praises his integrity in a Springfield Elementary speech contest held on the youth soccer field.’ To launch the partnership, five Chelsea players – Petr Cech, Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Fernando Torres – were ‘Simpson-ised’ in the yellow-flesh style of characters in the series. “We are very pleased to announce such an exciting partnership,” Chelsea’s chief executive Ron Gourlay said in a statement. “The Simpsons is a hugely popular show and I hope Chelsea fans will enjoy seeing its main characters in our colours.” Chelsea join a number of other top soccer sides working with The Simpsons, including FC Barcelona, Zenit Saint Petersburg, Corinthians, FC Porto, Juventus and Boca Juniors.
